How does 5-MeO-DMT work as a drug in the body and brain?

It shares a similar chemical structure with the neurotransmitter serotonin, which means it can fit into some of the serotonin receptors in the brain where it acts as an agonist, meaning it stimulates the receptor – especially the 5-HT2A subtype of the serotonin receptor.
